Last weekend was college move-in day for two of my kiddos… on the exact same day (#bigfamilyprobs). It just so happened that both kids needed to move on the same day that The Captain was not available, so moving was a Mom & Me bonding moment for each of them.
I’m not gonna lie– it was an exhausting day. It started early with a trip upstate to drop our daughter (#2), followed by an afternoon jaunt to our son’s (#2) school, which is fortunately closer to home. I looked back on it at the end of the night and realize how much I enjoyed my time with each of them today.
(Except lofting the beds. Bring a mallet. And Band-aids. IYKYK).
I’m not gonna lie and say I haven’t dropped them off in the past with a brave face and then ugly-cried on the ride home.
But this time it was a lighter, peaceful departure.
My daughter is entering her junior year, my son is beginning his sophomore year, and they’re both in the groove.
They’re smashing goals, creating memories, and enjoying that sweet spot where your college finally becomes “your” school and things feel almost golden in their alchemy.
I miss them when they’re not here; their combined energy brings a lot of noise and fun to our household (hence the pics; we love all things weird and quirky and funny).
But the sadness of their departure is tempered by the excitement I feel as I watch THEM so excited about what’s to come.
One of the best parts about parenting is getting to see your kids evolve into independent people that do their best to enjoy life and to make the world a brighter place.
Keep hustling, fellow parents. Keep putting in the work and keep showing up for your kids. It can be so intense and overwhelming sometimes, but your investment will pay dividends. You’re raising good peeps, and the world needs good peeps. ❤️
