I Won’t Buy The $3 Shirt, But A $4 “Bono” Guinea Pig Portrait? TAKE ALL MY MONEY.

I’ve always been the finance manager in our family, which is ironic considering that as an English major/words person, numbers have never really been my forte. But through the leaner years, I’ve scrimped, saved, & budgeted to keep our oft-frayed ends meeting. I suspect that it’s a mom-martyr thing, but I rarely buy anything for myself.  My default stance is to provide for the rest of my family first, and I often talk myself out of buying items specifically for me. Well, almost always. Friends, I’m about to introduce you to the hypocrisy that is me in terms of my financial priorities… apparently. (But in fairness, #2 is also to…

Eye Can’t Take The Allergies; They Blow. (So Does The Nose. Constantly).

I’m an allergy sufferer. That’s how they always refer to it in the commercials, no? “If you suffer from allergies… ” “If you’re an allergy sufferer…” I’m one of those people that is allergic to basically everything; we’re talking near Bubble-Boy status. Somehow, my immune system rejects the majority of the physical world around me. The list is long, and quirky.   MOLD. DUST. COCKROACHES. (Shouldn’t everyone be allergic to them, really??) TREES. (Fine. Not a fan anyway.) GRASS (God’s carpeting…. REALLY?? Why? Why???) DOGS. (The fun part? Not all dogs. It’s a game of chance until I go near the “wrong” one & start wheezing like a whistling teapot.)…

Carrots, Pickles & Twinkies: aka “Our Weird Car Game Code”

It all started with a Twinkie. Not the actual sponge cake bar of creamy goodness, mind you, but the shriek of, “TWINKIEEE!!!” triumphantly exclaimed from my backseat.  All it took was a single shout of “Twinkie” to put us on the cut-throat roller coaster of competition that is The Car Game. There were no reason for the shout. We were in the car, on the way to dropping #2 off at a friend’s house. # 5 and #6 had come along for the ride. My natural response was, “Where? What Twinkie??” To which #2 casually replied, “Over there. The yellow car; she found it.” Wait- whaat? And yes, my next…

My 7-Year-Old’s New Bedtime BFF? Google Nest Mini, Apparently.

The 7y.o. is a curious little dude, and always has been. He doesn’t just want to know how things work, but NEEDS to know- and why, too. As an equally curious sort, I get it- I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, too. I Google all.the.things., & envy today’s kids growing up with that convenience. 7 LOVES to ask questions. Lots of them. Pretty much ALL of them. And that’s ok with us, because we know that the wheels are turning & he’s working things out in that clever brain of his.   But it turns out that we weren’t the only ones patiently answering his questions. (In fairness, his…
