    A Royal Affair

Yes, my summer has consisted of roughly 99.7% kid-supporting efforts. But every rare once in awhile, I DO get the chance to escape the confines of the madhouse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKcYGOIJhqo Recently, however, I got the chance to do something that I’ve pretty much dreamed of since about ninth grade. In a word: IN CONCERT. Yup, confession: I’m a die-hard, long-term Queen fan. I’m not talking, “I can sing the chorus of Bohemian Rhapsody” type of fan. I’m talking the slavish, intense devotion of proudly being a card-carrying member of Queen’s International Fan Club, way back when you had to fill out a membership form in pen and MAIL it, overseas. Go 4th

Happy 4th of July, everyone!!* *Wet firecrackers fizzle into puddle in the pouring rain.* This year’s 4th of July was a rather damp one, but was initially very disappointing for my crew. Now we do have a membership to our…

For one family, though, today is a day like no other. It’s a day that unfortunately will be remembered forever, but in a way that few of us, if any, can even fathom. Today is the funeral of my neighbor, the dear man that I told you about in my last post. I promise that this will be my last post regarding such a tragic situation. As a virtual onlooker to the tragedy, I…

    A Great Catch

I had planned to tell you all about #1’s graduation from elementary school this past Friday- a lighthearted yet poignant anecdote to share with you just how quickly time has flown. I’ll still tell you about it, but forgive me if this post lacks the usual humor. I’m not feeling it. (I’ll explain.) I will say that, yes, it is a cliche to say that time flies when your kids are little, and yes, that cliche is true. I can’t believe that it’s already been eleven years since this: There are those milestones that really strike you as defining moments in parenthood, and obviously graduations are one of them. I…
