It seems in today’s age that large families are not the norm anymore. The “Large Family” phenomenon from past years has been abandoned as most couples try not to exceed the parent to child ratio rule. Once there are more kids than there are parents, you cross over into an alternate universe-
-A sudden plunge into a world where sanity and order vanish like a puff of smoke. While I’m busy bringing home the bacon (diapers, milk, vodka, etc…), my wife is home holding down the fort. Pondering her daily struggles, it dawned on me that something has been missing. How have those who have gone before us managed with so many children?
Thanks to the ever wise and trustworthy boob tube, I realized the answer. Our family is similar to the “Brady Bunch” in many ways except one; we are missing an Alice. Oh, and FYI, all our kids have the same father.

My mother was the oldest of 12 so I grew up in a very large family with tons of cousins 🙂 We only have 2, but that is due to me having to have difficult pregnancies and c-sections. If I had an easier time we probably would have had more. I agree though that you don’t see as many large families as you used to. It’s a shame since I loved having so many people to play with growing up!

Welcome, foodie! Wow, 12 kids… I can’t imagine having twice the amount we do- but I agree that having lots of cousins is a blessing! And by the way, having 2 kids is more similar to having 6 than you’d think… once there’s more than one, the real chaos begins!

After 2 kids, you can pretty much handle anything. When I had my 3rd child, I really didn’t notice a difference. Lots of kids are a blast. I might be crazy enough to add another one in couple of years to make five……or not. 🙂

That’s true! Having lots of kids generates lots of insanity, but the fun kind of insanity…. most of the time, anyway….
