I may joke about having a messy house, but in reality, I’m sort of anal about trying to keep it clean. I remember waaay back when I watched an episode of Jon & Kate + 8 and she was obsessing endlessly about her kitchen floor. I remember thinking, “what’s UP with this cah-razy lady?” Now I get it. It’s not so much about things being sanitary, even though it’s important. But it’s also about control. Maybe Kate (read: ME), couldn’t control the screaming vortex of insanity that life with her toddlers generated, so she scrubbed her floor like nine times a day to get through. I sympathize. Bedtime: The 5 Stages of Grief
With six kids ages ten and under, bedtime blows. Seriously. Maybe because it’s summer. Probably also because The Captain works a lot of nights, too, so I’m flying solo on the bedtime routine. As much as I adore my babies- and I truly do- after an entire day of doing the single parent thing, I’m over them. This is what happens, daily. Like this. Only more so. 1. Denial: It’ll be fine. The baby’s sleeping now, so I have time to tuck the two little girls with a story first. But maybe I even have time to <insert fun, non-kid activity here. Life With Laundry…
Dear Family, Thanks for unanimously voting me, for the tenth consecutive year, head laundry mistress. My track record obviously speaks for itself in terms of my superior sock-matching abilities, and my attention to detail has prevented many a would-be catastrophe (minus that unfortunate blue crayon incident. Oh, and the infant diaper gel-bead crisis). My careful discernment has also reduced detergent overhead; that is, I have taken great pains to avoid re-washing clean clothing that “accidentally” was thrown back in rather than shelved.
